HELP! How can I identify burned traits on an Avastar Prime?
Don't worry, Replicant Scientists-it's easy! In this article, I'll show you how to check this directly on the Avastars contract via Etherscan.
Entirely new to Avastars or Replicants? Please read this first!
If you have already visited the Replicant Factory, you know that you need at least 2 Avastar Primes with at least 12 available trait copies (along with ART and eth for gas/fees!) in order to create a Replicant. SO, let’s talk traits!
Quick History Lesson: Every Avastar Prime originally came with an extra set of its’ 12 traits. We call these extras “trait copies”. It’s now fairly customary for NFT projects to airdrop NFT “bonuses” to current token holders. Avastars did this differently by building in multiple opportunities for their owners; commercial rights, trait copies and ART, from the start, back in 2020. Pretty cool, eh? Eventually, we’d build the Replicant Factory, and trait copies and ART would be needed to create a Replicant. When you use ART and trait copies to create a Replicant, they get burned/destroyed. This doesn’t affect your Prime’s original 12 traits. The traits that make up your Prime remain the same.
While Replicant creation is one incredibly fun way to use trait copies, one is not limited to using them solely for that purpose. For example, anyone in the community could potentially create a game in which a user could only unlock a legendary item by using a legendary trait copy as a key. And, if you want to, you can even just burn the copies yourself, for whatever reason! (To our knowledge, Kaprekar is the only one to burn trait copies as an experiment prior to Replicants, using Avastar Prime #6360.)
Here’s another interesting idea involving trait copies, rarity & scarcity creation. Perhaps you REALLY want to be the only person with a Replicant that has a Butterfly Tattoo. You could theoretically accomplish this if you were able to own all 69 Avastar Primes with this trait, mint 1 Replicant with it, then burn all of the other trait copies. You would then not only own the only Primes with Butterfly Tattoos, but ALSO have then created the only Replicant in existence with said trait.

Now, let’s move on to our lesson! Here are the steps you’ll take to see if a Primes’ trait copies were burned on Etherscan.
First, go to Etherscan.io and type Avastar into the search bar. When it appears, verify that the contract address is: 0xf3e778f839934fc819cfa1040aabacecba01e049 and that there’s a blue checkmark. It should look exactly like it does below.
Next, you’ll land here. Click on the “CONTRACT” tab.
After you click on the “CONTRACT” tab, you’ll see “READ CONTRACT” Click on it!
Next, scroll down through the long list of commands underneath the “READ CONTRACT” button to #14:”GET PRIME REPLICATION BY TOKEN ID”, and click on it.
Clicking on #14 will open that section and show you the content inside the top red box in the image below. This reads “Get an Avastar Prime’s replication flags by token ID”. “Replication Flags” = Burned/destroyed trait copy indicators. Type the Token ID, or “Avastar Number”, of the Prime you wish to check in the search box, and click on “QUERY”. I’ve used Avastar #6360 as my example here. Remember, I mentioned earlier that all of its’ trait copies were burned.
After selecting “QUERY”, the content inside of the second red box appears. Token ID shows us that we did search for Token ID# (Avastar #) 6360. Replicated shows all 12 trait copy flags. These all read as “true”.
Replicated= Were these traits burned? True= Yes, False= No.
Since all 12 read “true”, we can verify that all 12 trait copies on Avastar Prime #6360 were indeed burned.
Q: What if, say, the third one is the only flag that shows “true”-how do I know which trait copy that is?
A: That would be Eye Color, because the 12 traits are listed from left to right order, as follows;
Let’s look at another example below. Avastar Prime #20093 has some burned trait copies, and some unused trait copies.
Using the order I posted above, we can see that 2-hair color, 3-eye color, 5-backdrop, 8-nose, 9-mouth, & 11-eyes are “true”, and thus these trait copies hav been burned.
That’s it! You can check ANY Avastar Prime, so before you get into a serious bidding war, pop over to Etherscan to double check its’ trait availability! While you can refresh metadata in OpenSea and check traits there, it’s always a good idea to double check on the contract.
